About Me 2019

Emily.

This is my name.

Simple and white as bread. With a middle name from my grandmother, and a last name that no one can pronounce despite my family believing it to be very easy. My first name apparently means rival, kind of strange if you ask me. I actually had to search it up to find out, for my parents didn’t choose it because of the meaning. Of course I can be competitive, as it is human nature to be so, but I could honestly care less if you are better than me at something unless you are cocky about it. Then you are just a jerk.

It was not my parents’ first choice though. As I was originally expected to be a boy, due to my heart rate or something, they had to do a last minute scramble to find a name for their newly discovered baby girl. The first idea was Madison, but it was too popular. Then it was Zoe, so my initials could be ‘Zig’ and my older brother’s could be ‘Zag’. Once again, we are very white. Luckily they saved me the embarrassment and didn’t pick that.

My brother was the one who suggested the name I have now. He was only 5 at the time, and it was from a cartoon. Hilarious, I know. My parents will never let me forget that fact for as long as I live. Not Emily from Clifford– despite all of the stares I would get in elementary whenever we read the books. I get it, It is a very generic girls’ name. No, it was actually from something even more obscure. A Canadian program called Little Bear. A strange cartoon in which a level-headed little girl with short, dark hair and a little blue dress talked to animals about sharing. Trust me, I am not like her at all anymore. Now, I write about death for fun. I always promised my parents that I would always be myself, so here I am. A Dr. Frankenstein of a writer, attempting to patch together the pieces of inspiration from my flyaway brain and pen.

A morbid mind and soul. With a boatload of terrifying images in her brain that are just dying to pour out on a page.

I am blunt and sarcastic.

I am harsh and oversensitive.

I contradict everything I’ve been told a ‘proper lady’ does just out of spite.

Because that is what I am, not just a name but a contradiction towards everything that name says about me. I love a good mystery, including the mystery of my own soul. A dark galaxy within me that no one has ever truly seen except for a few brief moments where I open up to empty out the cobwebs.

This is my name.

Emily.

But it does not define who I am.

Hello, I am Emily (given that it is the name I reference throughout my About Me, it would be strange if that wasn’t my name) and this is my blog. Welcome to the strangest journey you will ever take, with twist and turns and things that just do not make sense but trust me, it will make sense someday. I created this blog in grade 10 when I hated everyone and I was super edgy and I am refining this blog in grade 12 when I still hate everyone and I am still edgy. But now I am like, a soft edgy. I hope you enjoy my work and thank you so much for reading.

  1. Dearest Emily,
This is a piece of art that truly captured my attention. The flow of words to tell your story, created a journey for the reader to follow. I truly love your choice of imagery such as,”A Dr. Frankenstein of a writer, attempting to patch together the pieces of inspiration from my flyaway brain and pen”, this is deep and and really grabbed me into your blog. I will also mention that I like how you added a back story to the origin of your name and how your brother was the main reason for it.

For feedback to improve on is very hard because this is a really good piece; however, I would add maybe what your name was supposed to be before your parents found out you were a girl. It would be nice to know more about who you are, since you stated that this name does not define who you are. All in all, feedback is really challenging for this piece.

The colour choices and title for this blog are perfect for your personality and show the readers what to expect. Thank you for writing about who you are and giving us a peek of what we will see on here. Can not wait to read more.

    Love,
    Elena

  2. Dear Emily,

I absolutely love your writing it is so captivating and mesmerizing. I found it actually really cool that you were named after a cartoon because I personally can relate because my name came from a T.V show. Not knowing that much about you I really have a feel now of who you are.

I would work on describing a little bit more what you blog would be about I have an idea but I think it would be helpful for the readers to get that extra flavor of what its about.

Keep on writing you are phenomenal at it and I will fore sure continue to read more of your stuff.

    Sincerely,
    Felicity

  3. Dear Emily,

I found your about me to be very intriguing and I also noticed myself relating to you quite a lot while I was reading this page. I love your writing style, it almost made it seem as if you were talking to me directly as the reader which I really appreciated. By reading your about me page I learned a lot of new things about you and I realized that we actually have a lot in common.

One thing I would work on for the future is to make your ideas flow with more ease. You have great ideas and a great way of expressing them but I would like to see them flow and connect more easily.

I love the aesthetic aspect along with the tittle and theme of your blog because once again I find it relate-able . I will definitely be reading more posts by you because I love what I have seen so far.

    Sincerely,
    Wajeeha

  4. Dear Emily,

This piece was so captivating from the start. Just from reading the first line of your blog, I got this sense of humor and light- hardheartedness that I never knew was a part of you. It made me laugh and felt more as if you were having a casual conversation with me rather than just reading it off and trying to absorb all this information, and that really sets it apart and makes it unique from other pieces that I have read. It was really cool, how you mentioned your backstory about how your name actually came about and what it means.

To improve, I would suggest expanding more on what you hope to do with your blog and how your “edgy” personality is going to play a role in that.

Other than that, overall I thought that this piece was just amazing and funny. It was really nice getting to know a little bit about you, as I don’t know you too well. I look forward to continue reading and interacting with your future writing pieces.

    Sincerely, Simran

  5. Thank you to everyone who commented on this piece. I really appreciate your feedback and I am glad to hear that you enjoyed reading it. I will look over my piece with all of your feedback in mind. Thank you once again to everyone who took the time to read my work.

    Sincerely,
    Emily
